Two feet of pressed virgin wood pulp. Dense enough that claws mark it instead of shredding it across the floor, big enough that they sleep in it, and bonded with corn starch so it does not smell of anything.

It does not shed — pressed until the flutes lock. A steel comb marks it and takes nothing away.
Big enough to sleep in — 23.6 inches across and rated to 30 lb. Most scratchers are the size of a laptop.
No smell, at all — corn-starch glue. Nothing to air out on the balcony for a day first.
They actually use it — because it is a bed first. The scratching happens on the way in and out.

Durability
One of these is being scratched. The other is being destroyed.
Nearly every cardboard scratcher is pressed from recycled boxes — old carton, pulped a second time, bonded with the cheapest glue going and pressed loose so the board goes further. Give it a week and you are sweeping around it.
Recycled board
Comes apart in your hand
What most scratchers are
Short recycled fibre, already broken down once.
Pressed loose, so claws pull out whole flutes.
Shreds over the floor inside a fortnight.
Solvent glue you can smell through the wrapper.
Cozoon
Takes a steel comb and shrugs
What this one is
Long virgin fibre, pulped once, never printed on.
Compressed until the flutes lock together.
A little dust the first week, then next to nothing.
Corn-starch glue. Nothing in it to smell.
Same comb, same pressure, ten seconds each, filmed in one take.
Size
Is it big enough? It is two feet across.
The scratcher most people have owned is about the size of a laptop, so the cat stands on it for eight seconds and walks off. At 23.6 inches this one is big enough to lie down in, which is the whole reason they stay in it.
23.6 inlong, outside edge to outside edge
15.7 inacross the middle
30 lbcarried without the dish deforming
One large cat — a Maine Coon or a big ragdoll lies down full length in it.
Two cats who get along — side by side, if they are on speaking terms.
A heavy cat — rated to 30 lb, and it does not flatten under one.
A tight corner — it is 60 cm long. Measure the spot before you order.
Measured across the outside of the printed band. The dish inside is a little smaller, and curved — that curve is what holds a cat in place instead of letting it slide off.
Odour
It does not smell of anything.
Cheap board is bonded with solvent adhesive, which is why so many scratchers come out of the wrapper smelling of glue and spend their first day airing on a balcony. This one is bonded with corn starch — the same class of glue used inside food cartons. No formaldehyde, and nothing that gases off in a warm room.
Which matters more here than it would on a shelf. Your cat sleeps in this with its face against the board for hours at a time, then grooms off whatever it picked up.

In the room
A scratcher people leave out in the living room on purpose.
Sage board, cream dish, no cartoon fish down the side. Cat furniture is usually designed as though the cat were the one paying for it.
What they do with it
You are buying a scratcher. They think it is a bed.
Four minutes of one afternoon, in order. Which is the point: a scratcher they sleep in is one they keep coming back to, and the arm of the sofa gets left alone.
01Scratches itFront paws down on the dish, working the ridges. This is what you paid for.
02Climbs inThe wall is low enough to step over and stiff enough not to fold under them.
03Stretches outTwo feet of dish, so the whole cat fits with a leg hanging over the rim.
04Falls asleepAnd this is where it ends up, most of the day, every day.
The first week
Will your cat actually use it?
This is the real risk in the purchase, and nobody selling scratchers admits it exists. Three things make it far more likely.
1
Put it where they already scratch
Next to the arm of the sofa, or the doorway they have been working on. Not the spare room. It only competes with the furniture if it is standing beside the furniture.
2
Work the catnip in on day one
There is a sachet taped inside the lid. Empty it into the dish, rub it in with your palm, then walk away and let them find it. Do not lift the cat into it — that reliably backfires.
3
Then leave it alone
Most cats claim it within a day or two. After that, turn it end to end once a month so they do not wear one patch straight through.
Still being ignored after a fortnight? Send it back and we refund it. We would rather do that than argue with you about a cat.
What owners say
The floor, the smell, and whether the cat bothers
No dust on the floor
This is the bit I care about. The last one left a ring of shredded cardboard around it that I swept up every single morning. Two weeks with this and I have swept maybe once.

Zero smell out of the box
The previous one reeked of glue and lived on the balcony for a day before I would let it inside. This one smelled of paper and went straight down. That alone was worth the money.
Marcus L., Chicago IL · August 2026Verified
My 16 lb boy fits with room over
Bought it because everything else was too small for him — he used to hang off both ends. He lies down in this one properly and it has not sagged under him once.
Daniel R., Portland OR · August 2026Verified
Took her three days to commit
She sniffed it and ignored it for two days, which I was half expecting. Rubbed the catnip in again on the third morning and she has slept in it every afternoon since. Four stars only because I wish it came in a darker colour.
Hannah W., Leeds · July 2026Verified
Nine months in and still solid
Second one I have bought, and only because I wanted a second. The first is going soft in the middle now but it is still in daily use. Turning it end to end each month genuinely helps.

Does not look like cat stuff
It sits in the living room and nobody has asked what it is. That sounds trivial until you have owned a bright blue carpeted scratching post.

How long it lasts
About a year. Then you replace it.
A scratcher your cat cannot mark is a scratcher your cat ignores, so this one is built to be marked. Expect roughly a year of daily use from one cat before the dish softens in the middle — several times what recycled board manages, and nothing like forever. It is pressed paper. Anyone promising you forever is selling you something. Turn it end to end once a month and you will get the most out of it.

60 daysIf your cat refuses it, send it back and we pay the postage

Loose ends
Before you order
Will it really not shed?
There is fine paper dust for about a week while the cut edges settle, then very little. It is pressed hard enough that claws leave marks in the board rather than lifting flutes out of it — the difference between sweeping once a week and sweeping every morning.
Is it safe if my cat chews or licks it?
It is wood pulp and corn-starch glue, with no coating, dye or bleach on the scratching surface. That said, it is not food. A cat that eats cardboard rather than scratching it should not be left alone with any scratcher, this one included.
My cat has ignored every scratcher I have bought.
Two things are different here. It is big enough to be a bed, so it earns its place before it has to earn the scratching, and there is catnip in the box for day one. Put it beside whatever they are currently destroying rather than in another room. If it still does not land, you have sixty days to send it back.
How big is it, exactly?
600 × 400 mm, or 23.6 × 15.7 inches, and rated to 13.6 kg / 30 lb. A large cat stretches out in it. Two mid-sized cats fit if they get along.
Can I recycle it when it is finished?
Yes, whole. No plastic, no laminate, no synthetic adhesive — it goes straight in with the cardboard.
Delivery and returns
